What Are Trendlines?
A trendline is a straight line drawn on a chart that connects two or more price points. It shows the direction price is moving and helps you spot when that direction might change.
In an uptrend, you draw the line along the lows — each low is higher than the last. In a downtrend, you draw along the highs — each high is lower than the last. When price touches the trendline and bounces, it confirms the trend. When price breaks through the line, it may signal a reversal.
How to Draw Trendlines in TickerTrust
On the Analysis page chart, click the trendline tool in the chart toolbar. Then click two points on the chart where you want the line to start and end. The trendline appears instantly, connecting your anchor points.
You can adjust by dragging the endpoints. The line extends beyond your anchor points to project where support or resistance may continue into the future.
Trendlines on Every Chart Type
TickerTrust supports trendlines on all four chart types:
- •Candlestick: The classic choice. Draw trendlines connecting candle wicks (highs or lows).
- •Heikin-Ashi: Smoother candles make trends easier to see. Trendlines tend to hold more cleanly because Heikin-Ashi filters out noise.
- •Renko: Since Renko only shows price moves above a fixed size, trendlines on Renko charts highlight the clearest directional moves.
- •Point & Figure: Trendlines connect column reversals to show the dominant price direction without time distortion.
Tips for Better Trendlines
A trendline needs at least two touches to be valid. Three or more touches make it stronger. The more times price respects a line, the more significant it is — and the more meaningful a break becomes.
- •Use longer timeframes for more reliable trendlines — a 1-year trendline matters more than a 1-week one.
- •Don't force a line. If price doesn't respect it, delete it and try again.
- •Combine trendlines with volume analysis — a trendline break on high volume is more significant.
- •Draw both support (below price) and resistance (above price) lines to create channels.
